About us

Car Art Gallery is an open art project that brings art directly into public spaces for chance passersby and travelers. Our goal is to transform ordinary modes of transportation into mobile galleries and make art accessible to anyone who wants to get involved. The project offers a free space that exists entirely outside the control of curators and institutional ties, networks, and politics. These structures are often elitist and influenced by the "distorted machinery" of the art market. Instead, Car Art Gallery utilizes the natural mobility of vehicles—cars, trailers, bicycles, and scooters. In doing so, we open up the possibility for underprivileged artists anywhere in the world to exhibit their work.

This project is an original initiative by Beata Kateřina Spáčilová and was developed as part of her doctoral research titled: The Workshop: Women as Actors or Silent Helpers?
